Having a consistent approach to each shot is what I believe in and what I teach and drill into my students. I am sure they get sick of me repeating the same things over and over.
But... repetition is the mother of skill.
In saying that, I find common faults players make which deviate them from having a consistent approach. This particular fault I call ‘The Commando Roll’.
Watch the video for my explanation but in short, it’s when a player completely skips the pre-shot routine and rolls over to the next shot without standing on the line of aim and making a cue ball striking decision. Players do this when it appears straightforward or easy. However, this is where mistakes are made, usually positional in nature.
Treat each shot with the same respect. The pot may be easy but maintaining close to perfect cue ball control is not. Half a ball here or there could mean all the difference in
finishing off a frame, or not.
